Glycolic acid (hydroxyacetic acid, hydroxyethanoic acid) HOOC-CH2-OH is the simplest hydroxy acid. Colorless crystals with the smell of burnt sugar. Glycolic acid salts and anions are called glycolate. In nature, it is found in grapes, sugar beets, sugar cane. It is well dissolved in water, alcohol, diethyl ether.
The use of glycolic acid in cosmetology
Due to the complex action, the described component is widely distributed and serves as one of the main constituent elements in cosmetics. Glycolic acid is an excellent tool for cleansing the skin, exfoliating dead skin layers of the dermis, removing age spots, acne marks, smoothing wrinkles.
Glycolic acid can be found among the components of many cosmetic products, the substance is actively used and gives amazing results. The component is added to lotions, masks and peeling creams, but in a small concentration — no more than 10% (for consumer goods, in professional products the concentration can be 6 times higher). Also in the cosmetology rooms a mesotherapy procedure with glycolic acid (1%) is proposed.
What effect does the remedy have on the skin of the face?
The effect of this component on the condition of the skin was tested during a large number of scientific experiments. It is established that the tool is able to exert the following types of influence in the framework of its use for cosmetic procedures:
active exfoliation of dead cells, due to which there is an alignment of color and the surface of the skin itself;
own reserves of the dermis are activated, the production of proteins is stimulated, as a result of which the elasticity and degree of hydration of the skin are improved;
natural processes of skin cell renewal are normalized, which slows down its aging;
improves skin elasticity.
