Pyruvic acid

Pyruvic acid is a chemical compound with the formula CH3 (CO) COOH, organic ketoxy acids.

The action of pyruvic acid in cosmetics

Pyruvic acid plays a central role in the energy metabolism of cells of living organisms. In cosmetology, it is mainly used as a basic component of chemical peels, superficial or middle, in particular, is a key ingredient in red peeling. This ingredient, when applied to the skin, acts quite gently — peels off, without causing dryness, strong tightness and long peeling. Moreover, pyruvic acid even provides a good moisturizing effect, so it is recommended for use for dry skin. The fact is that with the participation of lactate dehydrogenase under conditions of oxygen deficiency, pyruvic acid is reduced to lactic acid and exhibits a pronounced moisturizing effect, since they belong to the class of specific components — natural moisturizing factor (NMF) in the composition of the horny layer of the epidermis.

Due to its lipophilic properties, this substance quickly and evenly penetrates under the skin — during peelings this allows you to control the depth of its penetration into the epidermis and dermis. With prolonged exposure, pyruvic acid actively stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. Also in cosmetology uses a number of other useful properties of pyruvic acid:

comedonolytic,

antiseptic,

bacteriostatic

antifungal,

depigmenting.

Many pyruvic acid derivatives are used in the beauty industry as adjuvants in cosmetics. (Perhaps the only unpleasant feature of pyruvic acid is its sharp and very specific odor.) Salts and esters of pyruvic acid (pyruvate) are also used to produce dietary supplements (BAA) — effective weight loss enhancers. For example, pyruvate calcium shows a strong effect as a fat burner, since it can accelerate the metabolism of fatty acids in the body. Creatine pyruvate is also widely used as a dietary supplement that has a positive effect on brain function, in particular, memory.
