The phytochemical composition of various parts of this plant is approximately identical — mandarin contains various antioxidants (alpha- and beta-pinene, pinene, myrcene and limonene, as well as γ-terpinene), unique compounds linalyl acetate, methylthymol, neral, geranial, and also nutkaton, alpha synensal and thymol.

Mandarin extract is used in the production of cosmetics primarily as an antibacterial agent, highly active against acne pathogens. The antiseptic properties of mandarin extract also allow its use as a healing agent. In addition, it provides a tonic effect on the skin, exhibits astringent and cooling qualities, narrows enlarged pores and eliminates greasy luster. Mandarin extract is added to brightening cosmetic compositions: in combination with more powerful active substances, it helps control the biosynthesis of melanin, preventing the development of hyperpigmentation and even leveling the skin tone.

In addition to the advantages described above, the mandarin extract is also capable of preventing aging. The fact is that mandarin extract improves local blood circulation, due to which the skin begins to be better supplied with oxygen and, accordingly, it helps to restore a more fresh complexion and has a positive effect on other aesthetic characteristics of the skin — turgor, elasticity. In addition, intensive microcirculation prevents the development of wrinkles, blemishes and other visible signs of aging.

However, the subtle aroma of mandarin extract is most in demand — it gives products a characteristic attractive smell, and it is this property of this component that is most often used by cosmetics manufacturers. Possessing a powerful enough and at the same time pleasant smell, mandarin extract often acts as an independent perfume component.
